Pour le métier d'Educateur spécialisé, la fin de cette décennie représente à la fois une date d'anniversaire, puisque 40 ans plus tôt a été institué le Diplôme d'Etat et aussi un moment charnière : la formation initiale de ces professionnels vient de se voir profondément réformée. Cette tentative d'"état des lieux", s'intéressant aux mouvements à l'oeuvre aujourd'hui, met à jour des propositions d'action, des ajustements, des stratégies des acteurs concernés pour faire face aux changements.
Transformer l'action sociale... Refonder le travail social... Ces thèmes, depuis quarante ans, reviennent régulièrement à l'ordre du jour. En janvier 2013, le Plan de lutte contre la pauvreté et pour l'inclusion sociale, lancé par le Premier ministre, les mettait une fois encore en avant. Comme si les nouvelles régulations publiques mises en oeuvre depuis le début des années 2000 devaient nécessairement conduire à ce point de bascule où tout devrait être un jour refondé autrement : financements, cultures professionnelles, métiers, pilotages, initiatives, évaluations... Le pari des auteurs de ce livre est que cette transformation ne se fera pas sans les citoyens concernés eux-mêmes, ni sans les corps intermédiaires seuls capables à leurs yeux de mobiliser ces derniers. A cet égard, les institutions de l'économie sociale et solidaire (ESS), dont les associations sont des acteurs majeurs dans le champ social et médico-social, ont un rôle déterminant à jouer. Elles ont, dans ce contexte, à opérer des choix stratégiques essentiels en phase tant avec leurs valeurs d'origine qu'avec les nouveaux défis qu'il leur faut relever. Ni l'Etat seul ! Ni les collectivités locales seules ! Ni le marché dérégulé seul ! Mais l'ensemble des acteurs agissant sur un territoire dans le sens de l'intérêt commun ! C'est pour que les institutions publiques, garantes de ce dernier, sachent s'appuyer sur une démarche ascendante émergeant des territoires, au plus près des besoins des personnes, que plaide cet ouvrage. Il explore ainsi les voies possibles d'une mobilisation et d'une responsabilisation accrues pour lesquelles les associations s'avèrent avoir à jouer un rôle incontournable, même s'il reste encore, à ce jour, largement à déployer.
This collection addresses concepts and theories of change, contexts and functions of reform discourses, and fields of change in educational research. It examines a wide variety of issues such as girls’ education in France, educational neuroscience, the professionalization in Child Protection, and mathematics discourses. It pays attention to the pervasiveness of crisis rhetoric in American Education Research, to the current university climate, and to perspectives for teacher education. The volume presents in-depth studies that integrate the perspective of history and philosophy of education. Educational research has been typically carried out within a discourse of change: changing educational practice, changing policy, or changing the world. Sometimes these expectations have been grand, as in claims of emancipation; sometimes they have been more modest, as in research as a support for specific reforms. This book explores the answers to such questions as: Are these expectations justified? How have these discourses of change themselves changed over time? What have researchers meant by change, and related concepts such as reform, improvement, innovation, progress and the new? Does this teleological and hopeful discourse itself reflect a particular historical and national/cultural point of view? Is it over promising for educational research to claim to solve social problems, and are these properly understood as educational problems? In doing so, it challenges prevailing ideas about the application of philosophy and history of education, and demonstrates the relevance of philosophical and historical approaches for the practice and theory of education and for educational research. The years following World War II saw a huge expansion of the middle classes in the world's industrialized nations, with a significant part of the working class becoming absorbed into the middle class. Although never explicitly formalized, it was as though a new social contract called for government, business, and labor to work together to ensure greater political freedom and more broadly shared economic prosperity. For the most part, they succeeded. In Social Contracts Under Stress, eighteen experts from seven countries examine this historic transformation and look ahead to assess how the middle class might fare in the face of slowing economic growth and increasing globalization. The first section of the book focuses on the differing experiences of Germany, Britain, France, the United States, and Japan as they became middle-class societies. The British working classes, for example, were slowest to consider themselves middle class, while in Japan by the 1960s, most workers had abandoned working-class identity. The French remain more fragmented among various middle classes and resist one homogenous entity. Part II presents compelling evidence that the rise of a huge middle class was far from inclusive or free of social friction. Some contributors discuss how the social contract reinforced long-standing prejudices toward minorities and women. In the United States, Ira Katznelson writes, Southern politicians used measures that should have promoted equality, such as the GI bill, to exclude blacks from full access to opportunity. In her review of gender and family models, Chiara Saraceno finds that Mediterranean countries have mobilized the power of the state to maintain a division of labor between men and women. The final section examines what effect globalization might have on the middle class. Leonard Schoppa's careful analysis of the relevant data shows how globalization has pushed "less skilled workers down and more skilled workers up out of a middle class that had for a few decades been home to both." Although Europe has resisted the rise of inequality more effectively than the United States or Japan, several contributors wonder how long that resistance can last. Social Contracts Under Stress argues convincingly that keeping the middle class open and inclusive in the face of current economic pressures will require a collective will extending across countries. This book provides an invaluable guide for assessing the issues that must be considered in such an effort.

How and why risk taking occurs has important implications. Yet many questions remain about how neurobiological, psychological, and socio-cultural factors influence decision-making.
